Production #2

So far in my production phase, I feel pretty confident and content with what I have produced. I have not yet completed production, but I have begun to film and edit a good percentage of my opening scene. This includes the opening credits and the first scene of my film. To get a good feel of the results of my scene, I have chosen to both film and edit as I go. This way, I will be able to see if I need to redo a clip or create it a different way before I get too far into editing. However, there are a few concerns regarding heading into postproduction. The biggest concern I have is being able to make my edits look real and believable. I want to be able to convey and fast paced special effects. With lots of time and attention to detail, I feel that I will be able to create these edits to the best of my ability. Rough Footage:

Film Analysis Part 3

Image
The movie I chose to analyze a scene from is Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol. The clip begins with a tracking shot of Tom Cruise dressed as an army general while walking swiftly  down a hallway. We can assume that the setting is some sort of protected government army base, based off the other soldiers and police men walking around in their respectable attire. We see an over the shoulder shot of Tom nodding his head to a man who is walking in the opposing direction down the hallway, which helps to establish a relationship through blocking. In the background, we hear non diegetic suspenseful music, which can help the audience to assume that the scene's climax is approaching. We then see a medium long shot of a group of police men looking confus...

Film Analysis Part 2

Image
The movie I chose to analyze a scene from is The Matrix. The scene opens on a very fast paced speed, with a close up shot of a man in a helicopter saying "We're under attack!" This sets the tone for the audience, to prepare them for a fighting scene. Loud, exciting music is playing, which is non diegetic. This helps to support the events happening in the clip, and to match the tone of intensity. The setting is in a large city on the roof a tall building, which correlates with the genre of action. The duration of shots is very quick, to encapsulate the extent of  the high paced fighting occurring. The costumes of the protagonists and antagonists are very similar, which are dressed in an all black, mysterious attire. The majority of the characters have shades on their face, which adds to the mysterious mood and feel of the movie. We then see a dissolve/ fade out transition of the man in the helicopter morphing into a different character dressed in a suit and shades. The use...

Film Analysis Part 1

Image
The movie I chose to analyze a clip from, is Avengers: Infinity War. The clip begins with a medium close up shot of our main antagonist, Thanos. There is no music, but instead loud footsteps of Thanos walking through the forest. It is an open frame, so anyone can enter or exit the frame. We can also hear an accentuation of the wind rustling through the trees and the heavy breathing of Wanda. This lack of music creates an intense mood, as we are waiting to see what happens next. Thanos' makeup is a bright purple all over his body, and his costume is very superhero/villian like. This goes along well with the genre of action. The setting is in a forest on Earth, which contrasts greatly with the futuristic attire of our characters. As Wanda is on the floor, Thanos and Wanda exchange dialogue which follows with suspenseful music. We then see a low angle shot of Thanos, from Wanda's point of view. This puts him in the superiority over Wanda, and adds to the effect of good vs evil. We...

Production Update #1

Production Update #1     I currently have a good percentage of my production process completed for the Final Project. I have done all of my planning, including storyboarding, scriptwriting, choosing my cast, and creating a preferred timeline for myself. For my storyboard, I created rough sketches of the main scenes in my opening sequence. This will help me have a much smoother shooting session whereas I will already have a good idea of what I am filming. It was also very beneficial of me to create my script, so me and the other actors will not be confused during filming. With choosing my actors, I will not have to be looking around last minute for who will help me with my project. I am now ready to begin filming. With all of these components completed in the beginning of the production process, I should have a smooth shooting experience.

Title Research Analysis

Image
Title Research Analysis     The summary I chose to analyze was Captain Marvel (2019). I feel that the title does a good job at giving away the genre of the project, which is action. It sets up a theme of good and evil with the contrast of characters and colors, which correlates well with the genre. The setting of the title being in space with the metal and rigid font conveys a feeling of armor or spaceships. It sets up a tone of excitement and supernaturalism, which is very common in action. My selection of this summary will be quite different to how I am planning on using titles in my opening sequence. My film will stray more towards adventure and mission themes types, as this summary has a very superhero feel. I will effectively use titles to help convey meaning in my opening sequence, by using adventurous fonts and mysterious styles. This way, my audience will not get confused and think that they are about to watch a superhero action film.
