Semester 1 Reflection

Semester 1 Reflection Reflecting on my progress in the Media Studies course, I feel as though my relationship with media has changed  drastically. Prior to taking this course, I did not thi nk much about what really goes into making and producing a film. I would just watch a movie  almost mindlessly , and my b rain would be tricked into the idea that everything just  almost magically  falls into place. However, after learning and working  through  units on aspects such as cinematography, mise  en  scene, editing, sound, and much more,  my eyes and understanding have begun to open on the reality of media.    I did not realize how much the little components can make  a big difference  in a film.  Small things  such as costume, composition, and even  different types  of  shots can all help to create and convey all kinds of meaning. Media Reflection #4

Media Reflection #4:   When it comes to groups of people being represented in a film, I feel that it is a very important responsibility to be able to correctly and accurately convey them . For my film Opening Project new month, I want to be sure that I am able to successfully do this, regardless of which group of people I need to represent . For example, I feel that the film ‘Black Panther’ had a positive reflection and representation for African Culture. It depicts African society as powerful, advan ced, technological, intelligen...

Film Editing Project

For example, I learned how to more seamlessly create a shot reverse shot clip. This had a lot to do with angles, positioning, framing, and precise cutting of the shot. I also learned how to perform a freeze frame. Prior to this project, I did not know that there was an actual tool to create a freeze frame, which was very helpful during this process. During the process of this project, my group and I experienced trial and error, which ultimately led to success. The plan that we originally had to do had to be fully scratched, due to complications with group time and availiabilty. We planned our video using a storyboard, so that once we got to the filming portion things would flow much more seamlessly. Overall, the process of filming took us about 2 class periods. I played many roles in this project. One major role was being the...
