  • Whilst filming and creating this video, I learned many things when regarding editing skills in media. For example, I learned how to more seamlessly create a shot reverse shot clip. This had a lot to do with angles, positioning, framing, and precise cutting of the shot. I also learned how to perform a freeze frame. Prior to this project, I did not know that there was an actual tool to create a freeze frame, which was very helpful during this process. During the process of this project, my group and I experienced trial and error, which ultimately led to success. The plan that we originally had to do had to be fully scratched, due to complications with group time and availiabilty. We planned our video using a storyboard, so that once we got to the filming portion things would flow much more seamlessly. Overall, the process of filming took us about 2 class periods. I played many roles in this project. One major role was being the editor. I did majority of putting the clips together, cutting out unwanted parts, and adding the needed transitions. I was also a big help in filming and acting in the clips. I filmed my partners and made sure the angles were right, while also being an appropriate actor. Overall, I feel as if I played a big role and was very useful in the completion of this project.

Fade in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ12xtFzYVE

The movie this clip is from is Eternal Sunshine. The transition is a fade, which is where Shot A gradually disappears as shot B appears. In this clip, we see a fade of the man walking through a library of busy people, into him being on the dark stairway of what looks to be a home. This creates meaning of wonder and confusion into this new setting. The fade is so seamless that we might almost miss it.

Wipe:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGqAu9gj_F0

The movie this clip is from is Star Wars Ep. IV. The transition used is a wipe, which is where shot B wipes across shot A and slowly replaces it. In this clip, we see a wipe from the view of a space ship, to R2D2 and C3PO walking on a planet. This transition is used to create meaning of adventure and moving on to a new location. It helps to cue the audience of new events.

Shot Reverse Shot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPPp7iOHekM

The movie this clip is from is The Wolf of Wall Street. This edit is shot reverse shot, which is when the camera switches between shots of different characters interacting. In this clip, we see a man having a conversation with someone off screen, and then the next cut is the man who he is speaking with. This creates meaning of establishing spatial relationship and a realistic dialogue. We are able to see both characters reactions and emotions in this conversation.

Graphic Match Cut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMQwH-h_MdU

The movie this clip is from is Motherless Brooklyn. This edit is a graphic match cut, where the similarity between shots A and B is the shape of what we see. In this clip, we see a man blowing on a lighter in  shot B while shot B slowly fades in on his face of two glass windows. These windows take on as a rough shape of his face. This creates an eerie meaning of connection, as it has the viewer wonder if he is someone connected to this ominous window.

Flash Forward:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNvXpbr7K9c

The movie this clip is from is Sherlock Holmes. This edit is a flashforward, which is the interruption of present action with shots that show images from the plots future. In this clip, we see a man in a ring about to fight with another bigger man. It then flashes forward to the possibility of what could happen if he makes certain moves. This creates meaning of anticipation and suspense.
