CCR Script
1. I filmed and created the opening sequence of an action movie called "Gone Gold". Conventions common in movies include theme, setting, presentation, character types, and story formula. The theme of my film was good versus evil. This was conveyed through cinematography, with an over the shoulder shot of our mysterious antagonist watching the news. Mise en scene was used through dark lighting of the room and dark costume to convey an eerie persona of the actor. We see a contrast with the protagonist, who is not trying to hide in the shadows, but instead shines a flashlight into them in attempt to find the stolen artifact. The setting of my film was conveyed as a dark abandoned building or lab of some sort. This is where our main character is searching for the missing artifact, whilst trying not to get caught by security or the antagonist. My film is presented mainly with clips of suspense, mystery, and includes a high paced fight scene. This helps keep the audience on the edge of their seats and creates a sense of excitement. Character types I included were the hero/ protagonist, villain/antagonist, the villain's sidekick/ security, and a minor character/ the news anchor. The relationship of these characters were conveyed through blocking and dialogue, which helps audiences understand what their ultimate goals were. The story formula of my film follows the 'three act structure.' My antagonist commits a villainous attack (stealing the artifact), the hero tries to help but experiences a setback (having to fight off security), and it ends with a final heroic victory (the hero finding the artifact in a separate room). Social groups or issues that are represented in my film include women vs men. It is common in action movies for only the men to triumph and be the heroic savior. However, my protagonist was a woman, who was able to fight off a male security guard in order to secure the artifact.
2. My film is able to engage with a wide range of audiences. I feel that people of all ages and genders would enjoy watching this film. It is family friendly, suspenseful and exciting all in one! My goal when creating this film was to increase the average engagement of women who watch action movies. This was done by utilizing a strong and fierce female as both the protagonist and antagonist. I feel that expanding my horizons of who would be interested in watching my film will only help to benefit audience engagement in the long run. When distributing my film as a real media product, I could chose my distributor to be Sony Pictures Entertainment. They are a very popular and highly successful distribution company, so I would have good trust in them to distribute my film. I would want my film to have either a wide release or a platforming release. For promotion, I would use billboards, social media, and commercial advertisements to get the name of the movie out into the public. Aspects of social media will be the most popular strategy for promotion, due to the high and increasing percentages of general social media usage.
3. During this project, I have been able to improve my production skills in many ways. I learned the importance of writing a script and forming a storyboard before actually filming the film. These steps in the preproduction process have greatly helped make the production of my film more smooth. Pre-planning what I am going to film helped minimize confusion for both me and the actors I was working with. Another way my production skills have developed was through my editing. I learned how to properly utilize the greenscreen effect to be able to create an accurate news scene. I was also able to advance my skills on putting clips together to create a seamless-like cut. In all, utilizing the many kinds of effects while editing helped me to become more familiar and fluent with the process.
4. I integrated technologies into my project in many ways. For my script, I utilized a computer to type out what I wanted my cast to say or do during certain scenes, and a printer to have a physical copy of the script available on set. To film my shots, I utilized an iPhone 16 camera. I chose to use a phone camera over a canon digital camera, due to the higher efficiency of being able to quickly watch back, delete, or import footage into my editing app. The editing app I use was CapCut, where I was able to put clips together, add sound effects and music, add credits and a title, add special effects, and much more. After creating an opening sequence that I was satisfied with, I saved it to my camera roll and imported it to be posted on to YouTube. Technology played a huge role in creating my opening sequence, and allowed me with easy and effective ways to create a successful action opening sequence.
