Production, Distribution, and Exhibition

Production, Distribution, and Exhibition Blog Post

For my film, the scale of production I would chose would be large scale. I would want my film to have a large team, with a big budget and lots of planning. I would want it to be financed by a studio. Preferably, I would like to work with Walt Disney Studios. This would be beneficial, so I can leave it up to the studio to make valid financial risks. This studio is also very experienced, with lots of successful films already released. I would want to star in my film. I feel that acting is fun, and it is exciting to see how my efforts turn out.

Since I chose a large scale film, my distributor would be Sony Pictures Entertainment. They are a common distributor to work with Walt Disney Studios, so these companies would pair nicely. Off of success of my film, I think that the Walt Disney Company itself would make the most money. It's largest investor, the Vanguard Group, would then follow. This is because Disney keeps about 50% of worldwide box office gross. I would want my film to have either a wide release or a platforming release. Depending on how well the movie is expected to perform, that would help to determine the kind of release. For example, a movie projected to get many sales could utilize wide release. For promotion, I would use billboards, social media, and commercial advertisements to get the name of the movie out into the public. Aspects of social media will be the most popular strategy for promotion, due to the high and increasing percentages of general social media usage.

If I go with platforming release people could see my film in a few select theatres before choosing to expand to more locations. If I were to go with wide release, people could see my film via commercial theatres, film festivals, studio events, or even streaming. The success of this release would be based off a number of things. For example, financial metrics in the box office, audience engagement, and even how many new subscribers Disney Plus gains from the release. People such as exhibitors, distributors and sales agents would receive money from the success of the movie before me. After me would be the producer's pool and backend participants. A few ancillary revenue sources I would expect to make money off of include consumer products, merchandising, soundtracks, and publishing. This can include toys, clothing, music streaming, and digital downloads.
