Photography Project Planning



 Photo prompt: You committed a serious offense on the school grounds and have been called into the principal’s office for questioning. You are terrified about getting in trouble. 

We will photograph an over the shoulder shot of the principal, with the kid who is getting interrogated clearly seen in front of him looking terrified. They will both be sitting at a desk, and there will be a lamp which will create darker shadows on the kid getting in trouble. We are attempting to create an overall mood and feel of intensity and suspense in this picture. 

 

Design 

  • Lighting: darker lighting, with a singular lamp used to create light and shadows in the room. Blue tint on the photo. 

  • Setting: In a smaller, confined office of a school 

  • Costumes, hairstyles, makeup: school attire, casual makeup, casual hair-do 

  • Props and decor: lamp, computer, pencil, and paper 

Composition 

  • Depth of composition (flat or deep): in the middle, closer to deep 

  • Point of view: the principal’s 

  • Implied distance from the subject (close-up, medium shot, long shot): close up 

  • Offscreen space: the door of the office/ rest of the room.

Semester 1 Reflection

Semester 1 Reflection Reflecting on my progress in the Media Studies course, I feel as though my relationship with media has changed  drastically. Prior to taking this course, I did not thi nk much about what really goes into making and producing a film. I would just watch a movie  almost mindlessly , and my b rain would be tricked into the idea that everything just  almost magically  falls into place. However, after learning and working  through  units on aspects such as cinematography, mise  en  scene, editing, sound, and much more,  my eyes and understanding have begun to open on the reality of media.    I did not realize how much the little components can make  a big difference  in a film.  Small things  such as costume, composition, and even  different types  of  shots can all help to create and convey all kinds of meaning.
