Ph oto prompt: You committed a serious offense on the school grounds and have been called into the principal’s office for questioning. Media Reflection #1

Image
I signed up for Aice Media Studies with little to no knowledge about movies or the real depth that goes into making them. I just knew I loved to watch movies in my free time and thought it might be a fun Aice class to throw in my schedule. H owever , throughout the first couple weeks of taking this course, my knowledge, awareness, and understanding of media has increased significantly. This course has helped me open my eyes more to the blueprint of what i...

"She's All That" Representation Discussion

After viewing the trailer of "She's All That," various topics on gender representations can be brought to attention. A potential issue with gender representation presented in the trailer could include the undermining of women's worth. For example, the beginning of this trailer could convey the idea that a woman's main value comes from their appearance such as Laney getting a 'makeover,' rather than from their true personality. This is also shown when the popular kid, Zack, dumps his girlfriend and then makes a bet with his friend that he can turn an 'ordinary' and unpopular girl into their schools next prom queen. I do not think that there is a proper representation of groups in this film, as it can convey the high school boys as female hungry, and convey high school girls as potential cheaters and objects as shown when Zack's girlfriend cheated on him during spring break. I think that towards the end of the trailer, this problem does ge...
